The public beta of DaVinci Resolve 12.5 is available as a free download for Windows and Mac OS X the public beta of DaVinci Resolve 12.5 Studio is available to registered users, on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. The update also adds ResolveFX, a new “native GPU-accelerated” framework for effects, and colour and gamma transformations and Fusion Connect, a live link to Blackmagic’s compositing software.ĭaVinci Resolve is available as a free edition, which is limited to UHD resolution when rendering projects, and which lacks some advanced tools and the full DaVinci Resolve Studio, which costs $995. In an indication of the pace at which standard capture formats are now changing, the grading toolset has also been tailored to handle HDR footage, for delivery to new broadcast formats like HDR10 and Dolby Vision. The editing toolset, already greatly expanded in DaVinci Resolve 11 and 12, gets a lot of new functionality, augmented by new curve editing and retiming options, although there are updates to the core grading tools. There are so many features in the update – some of them quite major new toolsets – that Blackmagic’s press release, reproduced in part below, is already a condensed summary, with little promotional fluff. DaVinci Resolve 12.5 is is one of those rare cases where it seems better just to run the entire list.
